Let's talk about:

What is
"Folk Art"

Hello folks!
We have been getting a lot of questions lately during our submissions time for our upcoming Folk Art show about how we are defining "Folk Art" for the purpose of curating submissions.
As many have pointed out, Folk Art has many wide and debated interpretations, and we each have our own personal ideas about what does and does not identify as "folk" style.

We find that the Wikipedia definition is a useful place to start (yes, we just referenced Wikipedia. Don't tell our old professors!). However, it is certainly not the end-all-be-all definition.

So, let us hear from you!

First, check out the definition on the Wiki Page here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folk_art

And another, less definite version from the Museum of International Folk Art:
http://www.internationalfolkart.org/about/whatisfolkart.html.

Then, post a response on our Facebook "what is Folk Art?" post to let us know what you think and join other artists in the discussion. Do you agree with one or both definitions? Is there something you would add, or perhaps contest? Tell us!

And don't forget, submissions for the show end Oct 16, and the Show opens November 6!
